About Protect the Whales

Protect the Whales is a grassroots advocacy organization dedicated to protecting whales and marine life through education, outreach, and action. We organize outreach events, petitions, and campaigns to raise awareness about captivity, pollution, and other threats to whales.

Role Overview

The Database Coordinator helps Protect the Whales organize and manage supporter, volunteer, and donor information in a secure and efficient way. A key part of this role is researching, recommending, and helping set up a database or CRM program that fits the needs and size of a growing grassroots nonprofit.

Responsibilities

• Research and recommend an appropriate database or CRM system (preferably low-cost or free for nonprofits)

• Help set up and organize the selected database program

• Create and maintain records for volunteers, supporters, donors, and petition signers

• Ensure data is entered accurately and kept up to date

• Develop simple guidelines for data entry and privacy

• Assist with organizing contact lists for outreach and fundraising (without spamming)

• Support basic reporting, such as volunteer counts or outreach totals

• Help ensure data is handled securely and responsibly

Qualifications

• Interest or experience in data management, organization, or administrative work

• Comfortable learning and using digital tools and software

• Strong attention to detail

• Respect for privacy and confidentiality

• Commitment to the mission of Protect the Whales

• Experience with databases, spreadsheets, or CRMs is helpful but not required
