Time Commitment: Approximately 3–6 hours per month
About Protect the Whales
Protect the Whales is a grassroots advocacy organization dedicated to protecting whales and marine life through education, outreach, and action. Our work focuses on ending captivity, reducing pollution, and empowering communities—especially students—to take meaningful action for whales.
Role Overview
Board Members provide guidance, oversight, and support to help Protect the Whales grow responsibly and effectively. Board Members help shape the organization’s direction, support fundraising and outreach efforts, and ensure the mission remains at the center of all decisions.
Responsibilities
• Support and uphold the mission and values of Protect the Whales
• Provide strategic guidance and feedback on campaigns and initiatives
• Assist with fundraising efforts, outreach, or community connections
• Help expand networks and partnerships
• Participate in board meetings (virtual or in-person)
• Support responsible use of funds and organizational transparency
• Serve as ambassadors for Protect the Whales in the community
Qualifications
• Strong commitment to whale protection, animal welfare, or environmental advocacy
• Willingness to collaborate and share expertise
• Reliability and integrity
• Experience in advocacy, education, nonprofit work, fundraising, law, finance, communications, or science is a plus, but not required
• Open to learning and growing with a grassroots organization
